PGL provides consultancy and training services in Geology, Geophysics, Petrophysics, Reservoir and Petroleum Engineering to Oil and Gas Producers across the globe. Our software products include petrophysical and geological analysis tools, allowing the geoscientist, engineer or petrophysicist to integrate, interpret and display a wide range of reservoir and log data. PGL are looking for graduates with strong Geoscience or Petroleum Engineering Degrees. Please investigate further at www.pglweb.com

History
PGL was established in 1990 to provide Sub-Surface Consultancy to an industry requiring external expertise in the detection, description and exploitation of oil and gas reservoirs. In its early days the company specialised in Production Geoscience support to the petroleum engineering community but as the demand for its services grew the team expertise broadened to provide full support for activities throughout the industry life-cycle of exploration to field abandonment. The company currently offers software development technical consultancy services in Geology, Geophysics, Petrophysics, Reservoir and Petroleum Engineering from its purpose built offices in Banchory, near Aberdeen, and now also from its satellite office in Guildford.

PGL\'s consultancy clients include many of the major Operators and independents, the company supports diverse subsurface activities around the world bringing to its clients meaningful reservoir descriptions and a clear understanding of the dynamic behaviour of reservoirs. Working on site or off site, PGL is available to support exploration, appraisal, development and production operations. This can be either short-term specialist project consultancy or long-term integrated projects for exploration through to production operations assuring its clients of high quality technical excellence, professional integrity and value in the work it delivers. The provision of niche training services is also seen as a growth area. Current consultancy clients include BP, Cairn, Chevron-Texaco JKX, Kerr McGee, Melrose, Shell and Total.

PGL also has a thriving software development business, based around two leading edge PC Windows products. IP (Interactive Petrophysics) is marketed as a Schlumberger product and has a strong presence around the world, presenting huge opportunities for business development of Petrophysics and broader consultancy work. ODM (Oilfield Data Manager) has a less mature market but as a state-of the art geological interpretation and reservoir data tool, offers huge potential in its own right as a knowledge delivery tool and associated consultancy services.

A more recent development has been the formation of a wholly owned subsidiary, Ternan Ltd. The remit of Ternan is to assist with and the promotion of activity in the industry (currently primarily exploration) through the application of PGL’s non-proprietary corporate knowledge and skills. Hence Ternan’s business is speculative, risk–reward work, in the form of Promote License acquisition, and the production of reports, potentially sponsored, but ultimately available on a non-proprietary basis. Ternan currently holds two 21st Round promote licenses, one regional play fairways report for sale and two in production.

In anticipation of the future, PGL is also monitoring non-oil & gas opportunities and has an exploratory venture with a German geothermal company and providing it with assistance on both geothermal and both oil & gas reservoir issues.

PGL provides a working environment and culture that actively promotes creativity and learning and provides opportunities for each individual to make a direct contribution to its activities. A style employed by PGL\'s management has similarities to that which has been called "upside down management". It is the staff that work with clients and generate the revenue, whilst the management provide, stimulate and support a work environment which makes it happen. As a result processes are highly dependant on the pro-activity of individuals, who do not need to be under continual prescriptive direction. Importantly PGL is committed to staff development, through formal training but particularly through a culture of ongoing coaching and mentoring.

PGL staff are recruited for both quality and fit. Its team of 40 is made up from a broad demography of intermediate to highly experienced consultants; most have direct experience of the major oil companies around the globe. The informal, open working environment allows for complete involvement in the business processes with close co-operation throughout. Knowledge sharing is an integral part of this both internally and with clients. Honest, open, two-way communication is fundamental to the way PGL works. Most important of all, PGL\'s rigorous communication and reporting methods ensure its clients can assume the technical ownership of its work.

PGL’s staff are attracted to the company by its proven technical success, stimulating working environment, integrity, full support team and an informal management style which promotes the sharing of skills and ideas. Working as individual Consultants or in integrated teams, PGL staff use their experience and expertise to make informed contributions to sub-surface and reservoir studies.

The reputation of any consultancy depends on the quality of its people. PGL is no different in this respect and has developed an enviable reputation of the technical excellence of its consultants. However it is the unique style by which this has been achieved which distinguishes PGL. From the outset, PGL\'s management had a unique view of how their staff were to contribute most effectively to the company\'s success and now, ten years on; its philosophy is still evident to anyone who comes into contact with the company. PGL\'s Business Management Systems are straightforward and practical while conforming to "Investors in People" (IIP), ISO9001, and 14001 accreditation. The friendly company ethos and close integration of engineering and geoscience is one of PGL\'s strategic advantages. The resultant intensively cohesive, motivated and professional team has resulted in a unique imbedded culture measuring success broader than in purely financial terms.

PGL has developed a broad business base which gives the Company considerable robustness. However the market for consultancy business, particularly in the UK North Sea, remains extremely volatile, causing unacceptable swings in business performance. This is accentuated by the fact that the Business Development function and accountability has been spread across a direct array of technical consultants, who the Company also depend heavily on to generate revenue. For this reason, PGL has decided to create the dedicated post of Business Development Coordinator in order to secure a more robust forward business stream for consultancy services supporting the industry in the UK and beyond.
